Jupiter – an alternative to the Super Hybrid Engine for Xubuntu 11.04+

The role of this application is energy management. It provides extended battery life on a single charge by reducing the processor speed. So, Jupiter is an alternative to Super Hybrid Engine-in for Linux.

Jupiter offers three modes of consumption:

  • maximum performance
  • high performance
  • power saver

In addition, there are some additional options:

  • Screen Orientation
  • Screen Resolution
  • WiFi On/Off
  • Bluetooth On/Off
  • Touchpad On/Off
  • Video Displays

How to install Jupiter on Xubuntu 11.04 or 11.10?

Add the webupd8’s PPA (Personal Package Archive) and install Jupiter by typing the following command in Terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/jupiter
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install jupiter

If you use the EeePC install jupiter-eee-support package that is required for SHE (Super Hybrid Engine):

sudo apt-get install jupiter-support-eee

If you use Ubuntu 11.04+ with Unity run Jupiter from menu and then logout and login, otherwise jupiter is not shown in the panel.

Note: Jupiter is not officially supported in Ubuntu and use it at your own risk. Personally I use Jupiter on Ubuntu 10.04 version and never had any problems.
